Farmers Insurance Donates to Blessings in a Backpack. - Travel & Leisure Close-Up

Farmers Insurance announced that it donated $25,000 to Blessings in a Backpack in conjunction with its No. 25 Farmers Insurance 'Throwback' paint scheme that Mark Martin drove in Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

According to a release, the donation spans three cities and will feed 374 students whose families qualify for the federal free and reduced meal program.

'This unique program with Farmers Insurance has lasting value for the community,' said Stan Curtis, Founder of Blessings in a Backpack. 'More than 62 percent of children in the United States public school system are on the free or reduced meal program. We've found that our program leads to better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance for the kids who benefit from it.'

The donation will aid three schools in communities with ties to Hendrick Motorsports: Community Charter School in Charlotte, N.C., a short drive from the team's facility; South Hill Elementary near car owner Rick Hendrick's hometown of Palmer Springs, Va.; and Sulphur Rock Elementary in Batesville, Ark., Martin's hometown.

'The Blessings in a Backpack organization fills a crucial void for children who might otherwise go hungry,' said Chuck Browning, VP of Community Branding for Farmers Insurance. 'This is a great way to enter NASCAR and our partnership with Hendrick Motorsports -- by supporting communities that are in need and important to all of us.'

The company noted that Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that currently feeds more than 37,600 students in 216 schools in 32 states and three countries -- Canada, Colombia and Haiti. Students benefiting from the program receive a backpack full of food every Friday for three years.

'We're proud to be associated with organizations like Farmers that give back to the community,' said Hendrick, who attended South Hill Elementary. 'The schools that will benefit from this program have a lot of meaning to us, but it's going to mean even more to those kids and their families. What a special way to kick off our partnership with Farmers.'

Farmers Insurance Assists in China Earthquake Relief Effort. - Health & Beauty Close-Up

HEALTH AND BEAUTY CLOSE-UP-20 June 2008-Farmers Insurance Assists in China Earthquake Relief Effort(C)2008 - CloseUpMedia - newsdesk@closeupmedia.com

The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies is aiding in the relief effort for the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the China earthquake.

Shortly after disaster struck China's southwestern Sichuan province on May 12, Farmers offered to match donations made by Farmers employees, agents and district managers, their friends and families up to $100,000 to help those affected by the 7.9-magnitude earthquake.

After Farmers agent Lisa Lan Ngo heard about the generous offer, she quickly shared it with her colleagues at Sacramento Chinese of Indochina Friendship Association (SCIFA) and she and nearly 1,000 of her friends and neighbors raised $135,000 in a single evening. Other members of the Farmers organization have also donated, and together a check for $240,741 will be presented for China earthquake relief.

Although this tragedy happened on the other side of the world, many people within the Farmers organization have family and friends who have been affected by the earthquake, said Paul N. Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer of Farmers Insurance Group. This is our way of extending our hearts to a nation who needs our help.

Farmers Insurance has selected two charities to receive donations: the Mercy Corps and the Red Cross Society of China. The Mercy Corps works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability to unleash the potential of people who can win against nearly impossible odds. The Mercy Corps has already airlifted over 32 tons of needed food and supplies to the affected area and has now focused its efforts on the psychological needs of traumatized survivors.

Farmers Insurance Group Federal Credit Union is accepting donations in a special China Earthquake Disaster Fund. Credit union members can transfer money right on their Web site, and non-members can mail or drop off donations to any local branch. To learn more, go to: www.figfcu.com.

Farmers Insurance Partners with Marvel to Kick Off The Avengers Campaign. - Health & Beauty Close-Up

Farmers Insurance is launching a campaign with Marvel's The Avengers to promote its partnership with the anticipated summer blockbuster set to premiere on May 4.

Developed by advertising agency RPA, Farmers said that the campaign features actor J.K. Simmons as the illustrious Professor Nathaniel Burke, with his usual six sidekick agents dressed up in homemade Marvel's The Avengers costumes touting, 'We're the superheroes of insurance!'

'Being associated with the much-anticipated Marvel's The Avengers gives Farmers advertising super-powers,' said John Ingersoll, vice president, advertising of Farmers Group, Inc. 'This opportunity lets us have some Super Hero fun with our established University of Farmers characters and shine some Hollywood limelight on our brand.'

In the TV spot, 'Suit Up' (:30), directed by Roman Coppola, Professor Burke and the agents explore the similarities between being a Super Hero and being a super agent. The spot continues with a lighthearted exchange between Professor Burke and his agents, dressed in do-it-yourself costumes representing each of Marvel's The Avengers' characters: The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye. A print ad by Marvel Custom Solutions recreates the TV spot in comic book form and will run in select Marvel comic books in May and June.

''Suit Up' marks the 20th spot in a campaign that has been very fun to develop. Every agent that steps onto the University of Farmers campus comes away with a ridiculous amount of insurance knowledge, so it's only natural to see our agents turn to super agents at this stage in the game,' said Tom Hamling, creative director at RPA.

A 2-minute 30-second behind-the-scenes video interviews costume designers, the prop team, and the super agents about incorporating Marvel's The Avengers into the University of Farmers spot. To extend the campaign on Facebook, six hand-drawn 'how-to' diagrams will be posted to help fans recreate the Marvel's The Avengers costumes as seen in the TV spot.

The behind-the-scenes video will live on Farmers' YouTube channel (youtube.com/farmers) and will be posted to Farmers' Facebook page (facebook.com/FarmersInsurance) with the six 'how-to' diagrams.

The TV spot will launch on April 16, on premium primetime programming including 'Dancing with the Stars,' '2 Broke Girls' and 'Biggest Loser,' and will run on cable networks that resonate with Marvel's The Avengers fans, such as AMC, Comedy Central, TBS, TNT and Discovery Channel. Integrated creative will also run online on ABC, CBS and Hulu.
